WW2 British Army Lord Lieutenant Officer Greatcoat G. Genuine period greatcoat originally worn by George Lawson Johnston, 1st Barron Luke KBE who served as Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire during the Second World War. Lord Lieuteants served as the monarchs personal repersentative in each lieutenancy area. He was educated at Dulwich College in Canada and Blairlodge School in Scotland.

Held many roles in regards to his career, politics and philanthropy which included. Joined the board of Bovril in 1896 and later vice-chairman in 1900.

Director of the Daily Express from its foundation in 1900 until 1917. During WW1 he was a member of the leather control board and chairman of the committee in raw material at the Home Office. Member of Bedfordshire County Council and served as a Justice of the Peace. High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1924. Chairman of the organising committee of the Hospitals of London combined appeal in 1922 Honorary Secretary of King Edward's Hospital fund for London.

Chairman of the British Charities Association. Treasurer of the County of London Red Cross.

Hon Secretary of the League of Mercy. Officer of the Order of Saint John.

Under Regulation 28B the undermentioned Honorary Associates are transferred to the grade of Officer as from the date of the Royal Charter, 12th June, 1926, in their existing order of seniority as Honorary Associates :- George Lawson Johnston, M. Published in the London Gazette 28th October 1927, supplement 33324, page 6807. The KING has been graciously pleased to signify His Majesty's intention of conferring Peerages of the United Kingdom on the following:- To be Barons Sir George Lawson-Johnston, K.

Published in the London Gazette 29th June 1929, supplement 33512, page 4353. The greatcoat is in overall good original condition and has little signs of use, some of the buttons still feature original paper packaging. The only defect being there are some minor moth holes (see pictures).

These do not detract from the greatcoats overall apperance and it still displays well. Made from all natural fibres, features Lord Lieutenant buttons, Lord Lieutenant rose and crown insignia to the epaulettes and a tailor label for Forster & Son Ltd 9, Clifford St, Bond St W. 1, named to The Lord Luke and dated 26-10-39. The approximate measurements of the greatcoat are. Top of collar to bottom hem - 48 inches. Shoulder to cuff - 23 inches. Please look at my other items for more militaria and collectables.
